Day of Surgery

Summary

You will need to be at VGH or SPH early in the morning and you will be there most of the day.

What to bring:
IDENTIFICATION
CLOTHING – comfortable and easy to change into with backup outfit(s). Supportive shoes that are easy to put on and take off.
EQUIPMENT – bring medical equipment or mobility aids that you need to mobilize (forearm crutch, wheelchair, sling etc.). Discuss with team if additional home equipment needed post-operatively.
TOILETRIES – toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, lip balm, deodorant and body wipes, skin lotion, small comb or brush, hair products. Consider travel sizes or filler smaller containers of products to save space.
HEAD LAMP OR FLASH LIGHT – may help if you need to find the call button or other items and may be easier to use the over head light above each bed.
EAR PLUGS - Hospitals are noisy, so ear plugs may help improve sleep
ELECTRONICS – phone, +/- tablet,  charger(s), headphones.  Consider downloading some movies or tv shows in advance, loading an e-reader or prepare audio books/podcasts.
OTHER ITEMS - Books, notepad, pens and crossword puzzles, wordsearches, etc
FOOD/DRINKS – Meals provided in hospital, but may prefer to have some dense snacks such as nuts, dried fruit, granola/protein bars, cheddar cheese crisps, or instant coffee if want more than provided on the morning meal tray 
GLASSES/READING GLASSES
BAGS & ZIPLOCS – Organize items in bags or ziplocs to find more easily
