Spinal Muscular Atrophy

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive progressive neuromuscular disorder. Patients have complex care needs, and although there is no cure for this disease, there have been significant recent advancements in the development of disease modifying therapy which are dramatically altering the course of the disease. Care has previously been fragmented for adults living with this disease but with the advent of new therapies we are working towards developing a multidisciplinary clinic to provide ongoing longitudinal care for adults with SMA in BC.
